High School Application Process

Buffalo Public Schools is home to 18 high schools that offer a wide variety of innovative programs to meet the academic interests of students. We want all of our students to attend a school that best fits their needs and long-range goals. Families have the option to apply to a career technical (CTE), general education, or a specialized program.

  • New students to the district

  • Returning to Buffalo students after being withdrawn

  • BPS students in 8th grade

  • BPS students in grades 9th-11th grades who wish to transfer to another BPS high school

Apply for school year | 2025 -2026

NEW OR RETURNING STUDENTS

Complete a High School Application in person at:

Student Placement & Registration
33 Ash St.
Buffalo, NY 14204

NOTE: BPS students will work with their counselors to complete the application process.

Student Placement & Registration will run random computerized lotteries to fill seats at non-criteria schools in grades 9-12. Criteria school seats will be filled based on individual schools' criteria. Students interested in applying to criteria schools will need to wait until after the first marking period to submit their application with their 1st quarter grades and attendance.

NOTE: If you are interested in applying to a Charter School, please contact the specific school directly. 

What Happens Next

Assignment and wait pool letters will be mailed to families in Spring 2025 for applications submitted on or before December 6th, 2024.
